BRM Announces Free Public Shred Day in Johnstown

9/15/2008

Business Records Management to Offer Free

Shredding Services to the General Public

Johnstown, PA - Business Records Management (BRM), a leader in records and information management in Pennsylvania, will offer free document shredding to area residents during an event that will highlight the importance of protecting discarded personal information.

Shred Day will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2008 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at BRM’s facility at 1325 Eisenhower Boulevard in Richland Township.  Members of the public may bring up to four boxes of paper records per resident to be destroyed free of charge.  BRM encourages residents to bring obsolete personal records such as bank statements, credit card receipts, tax paperwork, bills and other statements, and watch as they are securely shredded.  Prize drawings will be held during the event.

“An identity is stolen every four seconds,” said BRM president Steven Wright.  “Identity theft destroys people’s credit, insurance and Social Security benefits.  Because of our extensive document destruction experience and nationally recognized NAID AAA-Certification, BRM is committed to educating the public through special events such as Shred Day.”

NAID (National Association for Information Destruction) is an international trade association for the information destruction industry, ensuring the security of shredded documents.  The AAA rating represents the highest standards of ethics.  BRM is the only company in the Johnstown area that is AAA-Certified.

According to Robert Johnson, executive director of NAID, “Studies have shown that most identity thieves obtain personal information they use to commit their crime from low-tech sources such as dumpster diving.  Law enforcement agencies across the country at all levels strongly recommend that personal information be destroyed before it is discarded.  Business Records Management is doing a great public service by providing this service free as a means of promoting secure destruction throughout the year.”

In addition to Shred Day, BRM will participate in two related events on the same date.  BRM will sponsor Forever Broadcasting’s Going Green Symposium at the Galleria Mall, which promotes recycling.  BRM will also join 120 secure shredding companies across the country for NAID’s Secure-Your-ID Day, and is one of only three Pennsylvania companies participating.

Business Records Management operates facilities in Johnstown, Pittsburgh and Erie.  BRM provides information management services to over 3,000 organizations throughout western Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and parts of Maryland and New York.  Services include Document Storage and Management, Secure Document Shredding, Disaster Recovery, Software Escrow, Backup Tape Storage and Rotation, Email Retention, Imaging and Records Management Consulting.
