Business Records Management Partners With Autism Speaks

to Raise Autism Awareness and Funds

Pittsburgh, PA - Business Records Management (BRM), a leader in records and information management in Pennsylvania, is pleased to support Autism Speaks Greater Pittsburgh Chapter as part of the “Miles for a Mission” program.

BRM, known for its fleet of signature white-and-red courier vehicles, will signify the partnership with a blue van.  BRM will donate ten cents to Autism Speaks for every mile the vehicle drives, as indicated by the slogan “Donation given for every mile driven” displayed on the vehicle.  The program will be in effect for as long as the vehicle is in service.

In addition to increasing autism awareness during its scheduled service routes, the vehicle will also be on hand for Autism Speaks events such as Walk Now for Autism.

“Business Records Management is very excited to support Autism Speaks, and we are pleased to address one of the most challenging issues facing medical science today,” said BRM president Steven Wright.  “At a time when some corporate giving programs may be forced to curb their efforts, we have chosen to directly address this disorder.  This vehicle will not only help raise funds, but we hope it will also bring hope to the families impacted by autism throughout this region.”

“We are so pleased that Business Records Management has chosen Autism Speaks Greater Pittsburgh Chapter as one of their charities of choice with this creative fundraising idea.  With the odds of autism now 1 in 150, this is a wonderful opportunity to help spread the awareness of autism spectrum disorder,” said Chapter executive director Beth Whitehouse.  “BRM has been a wonderful supporter of our organization here in Pittsburgh by sponsoring our past golf outings. The Wright family has been involved with our organization for years, participating in all of our events from the Walk Now for Autism Speaks to the golf outing and gala events. We are proud to partner with a great Pittsburgh company that generously gives back to the community.”

About Autism

Autism is a complex brain disorder that inhibits a person's ability to communicate and develop social relationships, and is often accompanied by behavioral challenges. Autism spectrum disorders are diagnosed in one in 150 children in the United States, affecting four times as many boys as girls. The prevalence of autism has increased tenfold in the last decade. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have called autism a national public health crisis whose cause and cure remain unknown.

About Autism Speaks

Autism Speaks is the nation’s largest autism science and advocacy organization, dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism; increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders; and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families.  Autism Speaks funds more than $30 million each year in new autism research, in addition to supporting the Autism Treatment Network, Autism Genetic Resource Exchange, Autism Clinical Trials Network, Autism Tissue Program and a range of other scientific and medical programs.  Notable awareness initiatives include the establishment of the annual United Nations-sanctioned World Autism Awareness Day on April 2 and an award-winning, multi-year national public service advertising campaign with the Ad Council.  Autism Speaks’ family services efforts include the Autism Video Glossary, a 100 Day Kit for newly-diagnosed families, a School Community Tool Kit and the distribution of community grants to local service providers.  Its government relations department, through its Autism Votes initiative, has played a critical role in securing federal legislation to advance the federal government’s response to autism, and has successfully advocated for insurance reform to require insurers to cover medically-necessary autism therapies.  Each year, Autism Speaks Walk Now for Autism Speaks fundraising events are held in more than 70 cities across the country, as well as Canada and the United Kingdom.
